Description
We take a wide detour to get from Stössing to Hegerberg - but the path causes no trouble and our reward is great. We enjoy changing views on the ascent, the former monastery and today's seminar hotel Refugium Hochstrass to the west, Stössing and Hochgschaid to the north and the Schöpfl ridge to the west. Passing new and old farms, we rest above Goin next to a chapel and a magnificent service tree. Over the hidden Bols property, we reach the Zum Kreuzwirt inn - known for the best home cooking. On the way further, our well-being is nurtured - the lovely Hochstraße winds through a special part of ElsbeerReich. Centuries-old farmsteads with their extensive orchards, species-rich forest areas, long hedges of dogwood, hazel, hawthorn, hornbeam (colloquially: Zeilert), and charming tree groups impress us. The cultural landscape created over many generations by foresters spoils not only the eye. Fulfilled, we come to the Hegerberg and the Johann Enzinger Shelter, where it is also excellent to stay and enjoy hearty home-cooked meals with the best panoramic views. For the descent to Stössing, we can choose between the Stössing circular walks or the hike to Stössing via Freiling.

Route description Hiking trail Stössing Hegerberg
The hiking route Stössing - Hegerberg begins in the town center at the municipal office in Stössing. The path leads us from the town square at the fountain on the Landeshauptstraße towards Brand-Laaben, after about 300 m we turn right towards Stollberg. After about 150 m, we go left uphill on the Mayerhofer farm road. The paved road takes us past the Grabenbauer property and a beautiful settlement, further uphill we reach a newly built farmstead and then the Moarhof with a mighty ash tree as the house tree. From there, continue straight over a meadow path past an idyllic group of willows, around a gentle hill and through a "flat saddle" to the last farmstead, Strutzenberger, up to Goin. Now we hike the meadow path uphill to the right to a small chapel associated with a service tree. We continue to the Bols farmstead, reach the main road and straight on to the Zum Kreuzwirt inn at Stollberg. Refreshed, we ascend the slightly rising Hochstraße farm road west of the Kreuzwirt. The peaceful Hochstraße first leads us past picturesque farmsteads with their drying houses, then winding through a small forest. Passing Sonnleiten, the Goiner and the Schererbauer farms, after about 4 km from Stollberg, we arrive at the Dolln property with a view toward Michelbach. Now we leave the romantic Hochstraße and climb to the right, well marked, over a "Hoid" and a short stretch of road into the forest and behind the rest bench into it. Soon we come to a fork, where we keep right to reach the monastery chapel after the spruce and maple cultivation. From the chapel, we hike left, northward, on a meadow path into the forest. Gently uphill, the path takes us past a colorful windbreak belt, with the Prinzbauer property in sight. Continuing on the path, we cross a wooded hill down to the Hegerberg Saddle and to the Hegerbergstraße, which leads us up to the destination of our hike.
