The Dunkelsteinerwald Round (DUR), totaling 160 kilometers, connects the most beautiful spots of the Dunkelsteinerwald region in 9 stages (and 4 connecting routes). An incomparable nature and hiking experience. The third stage (DUR 3) leads from Schenkenbrunn to Maria Langegg. All stages and connecting routes: www.dunkelsteinerwaldrunde.at.
NOTE route change: Detour from Scheiblwies towards Aggsbach on the state road due to numerous fallen trees.
DUR 3 takes us from Schenkenbrunn along meadows and fields to Geyersberg and Scheibelwies. After Scheibelwies, we hike on a state road that is unique. Amid dense mixed forests, this only partially paved road leads towards Maria Langegg. It probably originates from Roman times.

Our route leads us from the chapel in Schenkenbrunn gently uphill along the road towards Maria Langegg. After a few meters, we turn right and follow the path to the town sign, where we keep left and follow the path to the next junction. Here we hike left and our DUR leads us downhill along the forest edge to the state road, which we cross. We follow the path and reach Geyersberg, where we turn left at the state road and head towards Scheibelwies. At the end of the village of Geyersberg, a look at the Celtic stone circle is worthwhile. Upon arrival in Scheibelwies, we go left past the village along the state road until we reach a sharp left curve. Here begins the aforementioned historic state road, which we follow to the hiking path junction to Maria Langegg. Here we should take a deep breath again before tackling the steep ascent that leads us along the Stations of the Cross directly to the Maria Langegg monastery. Here we can rest our legs by visiting the pilgrimage church.
