Details for: Wienerbruck - Kohlerhöhe - Hintere Tormäuer - Wienerbruck

Brief description

Scenically impressive, varied route with a cave, gorge, and a waterfall!

Description

The starting point for this scenically impressive route is the Ötscher-Basis in Wienerbruck, which is also an ideal stopover before or after the hike. The public journey by Mariazell Railway is particularly recommended due to the nearby stop in Wienerbruck.

After a short stretch along the Wienerbruck reservoir, the path continues over trails and forest roads through a lonely forest before reaching the road towards Erlaufboden. At the nature park entrance Erlaufboden begin the Hintere Tormäuer - an impressive gorge with tall, rugged rock walls shaped by the water of the Erlauf. Passing the mysterious entrance to the Gamslucken cave, accompanied by the turquoise-blue river, you penetrate further into the impressive, seemingly pristine nature until you reach the Wienerbruck power plant. A detour into the turbine hall of the show power plant is definitely worthwhile! On the ascent via a steep path, with the Lassing waterfall always in view, you can tap the last reserves of strength before returning to the Ötscher-Basis and recharging your batteries in the Seegasthaus.
