Eisenstein

Mountain summit

Description

The Eisenstein is a 1,185 meter high mountain in the Türnitzer Alps in Lower Austria. On its summit stands the Julius-Seitner-Hütte and invites you to stop for a break. From the summit, in good weather, you can see the Ötscher, the Schneeberg, the Gippel and also the Große Priel and the Traunstein.

Near the Eisenstein is the 1,195 meter high Hohenstein.
It takes about 3 hours to reach the Otto-Kandler-Haus on the Hohenstein via the Gscheid.

Many paths lead to the Eisenstein

  • starting from Türnitz, 466 meters altitude difference, about 2½ hours walking time
  • from Knedelhof (Türnitz), 595 vertical meters, about 1½ hours walking time
  • from Stelzerbach (Türnitz), about 2¾ hours walking time
  • from Dobersnigg (Loich train station), 400 vertical meters, about 3 hours walking time
  • from Loicheck, 878 vertical meters, about 1.5 hours walking time
  • from Schwarzenbach an der Pielach (village center), 510 vertical meters, about 2 hours walking time

Several regional and Austrian long-distance hiking trails also lead over the summit of the Eisenstein, such as the Waldmarkweg 622, Traisentaler Rundwanderweg 655, and the Voralpenweg 04A.

Another tour on the Eisenstein is the Türnitzer Alpen Rundwanderung Eisenstein. An ideal round hike to the panoramic summit with the Julius-Seitner-Hütte at 1,185 meters above sea level. Duration approx. 5:45 hours.

The Eisenstein in winter

The Eisenstein is a popular destination for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. The terrain is well suited. The Knedelhof is a convenient starting point for winter sports enthusiasts.
The Julius-Seitner-Hütte is also open in winter and is perfect for a break and to fortify yourself.
