Flecknertor

Historical sites

Description

The Fleckner Gate is the only remaining gate tower of the town wall. The passages for the heavy chains of the drawbridge over the water-filled moat built in the Middle Ages are still clearly visible. When the gate walls were reinforced in 1544, a special tax was levied on the citizens. The farmers in the surrounding area also had to provide free labor for the reconstruction. At the time, the passage was only slightly uphill. The moat was filled in in the 18th century and the road along the Gürtel was only raised considerably in the last few decades.
