Great Sulzberg
Mountain summit
Description
The 1,400 meter high Großer Sulzberg is the highest mountain in the Türnitz Alps in Lower Austria.
Location: Mostviertel, Türnitz Alps, St. Aegyd im Neuwalde
On the partially treeless ridge, the panoramic view extends from the Schneeberg to the Göller and all the way to the Gesäuse.
The Sulzberg lies north of Lake Hubertus and just under 4 km south of the Annaberg. The municipal border between Sankt Aegyd am Neuwalde and the municipality of Annaberg follows the west-east ridge of the Großer Sulzberg.
Paths up the Großer Sulzberg
There is no marked trail leading up the Großer Sulzberg, it is located away from larger settlements or traffic routes, which is why it is rarely climbed.
The easiest way to reach the summit is via forest roads and unmarked hunting trails in around two hours from Fadental.
The ascents from the Sattel Am Säbel in the west or from Ulreichsberg in the east are longer, via hunting trails or only faintly recognizable paths.
In winter, the mountain is a popular destination for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. As most of the ascent is in the forest, there is less risk of avalanches. The Fladental is also a good starting point for this.
