Description
Between Schaubing and Karlstetten on the Süßenberg lies the Heimkehrerkapelle chapel.
The Heimkehrerkapelle (built in 1950) is a chapel that serves as a memorial for soldiers or prisoners of war who have returned home. It is located on the edge of the forest above the road about 1.5 km outside Karlstetten in the direction of Schaubing. It is an open chapel with a bell tower. Inside there is a small altar and on the walls are death notices of the builder Franz Hörhan († 24.09.1978), several votive tablets and a memorial saying.
The chapel was restored in 1990 (on its 40th anniversary).
A memorial service with a field mass is now traditionally held every five years by the neighboring local chapters of the Kameradschaftsbund Karlstetten and Obritzberg-Rust.
The square in front of the chapel offers a special view of the Alpine foothills and the Alps. Schneeberg and Ötscher are only the best-known representatives of this special backdrop.
If you climb the Süßenberg and walk past the Heimkehrerkapelle chapel, you will reach the Christmas tree adventure forest. The Christmas tree adventure forest is a special Advent experience for young and old.
From December 8 to 23, Christmas fans are welcome between 14:00-19:00.
A visit to the Christmas tree adventure forest is free of charge.
Hike through the fairytale forest with alpacas or let the glowing balloons with your wishes for the Christ Child fly. For the little ones, there is also a craft cave and a great nature playground. You can find annually changing attractions at christbaumerlebniswald.at
When it comes to Christmas trees, you will find a variety of freshly cut Nordmann firs and blue spruces. You can also choose your favorite tree in the forest and have it freshly cut.
