Jelinekwarte

Lookout tower, Scenic lookout

Description

Dr. Heinrich Jelinek, the son of a lawyer who originally came from a Moravian family, went down in the history of the town of Scheibbs as a recognized local historian. He was the first to recognize the cultural-historical significance of the Scheibbs marksmen's targets, recorded each one in words and pictures, deciphered and interpreted the often difficult symbolism and thus laid the foundation for today's secure knowledge of one of the largest collections of marksmen's targets in the German-speaking world. With the erection of the Dr. Heinrich Jelinek Warte in 1953 at the Burgerhof above the town, the town of Scheibbs set a visible sign of gratitude to him during his lifetime. Jelinek died in April 1964, highly respected and generally mourned. The wooden observation tower with a total height of 12.3 meters was completely renovated in 2007.
