Sonnenkräuterhof – Schaugarten Gertraude Schmidt

Gertraude Schmidt's show garden is located in Karlstetten, just a few kilometers from St. Pölten - a garden that makes no secret of its owner's passion for herbs. She learned about herbs from her grandmother and mother as a child. Today, countless teas, spices and medicinal herbs are grown in the Aussiedelhof garden. There are also lots of cottage garden plants such as peonies and Jerusalem artichokes, as well as a poisonous plant garden. The labeling of all the plants proves to be original, as around 200 coffee plants in all shapes and colors can be seen in this show garden. "I made a virtue out of necessity," says Ms. Schmidt. "When I was labeling the many herbs, the labels kept getting broken. That's why I used old coffee mugs as labels." The beneficial insect house and the drying house, where herbs and fruit can be dried, are indispensable in the herb garden for the natural gardener.
