Wallfahrtskirche Maria Jeutendorf

Description

In 1717, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of today's parish and pilgrimage church in Maria Jeutendorf. The spiritual site is visited by numerous pilgrims every year.

Maria Jeutendorf: history of the Lower Austrian place of pilgrimage

In 1676, the local castle was acquired by Baron Maximilian von Sala. In gratitude for the recovery of his eldest daughter, he had a chapel built opposite. He founded a Servite monastery here in 1693. Almost three hundred years later - in 1978 - it was closed due to a lack of new recruits.

Bishop Zak then asked the Carmelite nuns of Mariazell to found a daughter convent in the now empty convent. In the mid-1980s, the Discalced Carmelites therefore established the Mater Dolorosa Carmel. As a result, Jeutendorf changed its place name to Maria Jeutendorf.

The Carmelite nuns in Maria Jeutendorf: living spirituality

The small community of sisters at the convent is particularly committed. The spiritual offerings range from prayer and church services to meditation and Carmel celebrations. Guests are also welcome in the convent.

The sisters maintain themselves for the most part. The convent store sells its own products from the icon painting and candle workshop or the host bakery - as well as cards, books and CDs.
