The mountain of action: Gemeindealpe Mitterbach

You will find Lower Austria's best here: the most beautiful view, the steepest natural slope and the coolest snow park. Mt. Gemeindealpe is a multi-faceted ski area.

Sunny, challenging and versatile: This is how Mt. Gemeindealpe usually presents itself to winter sport enthusiasts. Thanks to its wide range of options, the local mountain of Mitterbach especially caters to ambitious winter sport enthusiasts such as powder snow fans and freestylers during wintertime.

Everything from steep to long: The slopes offer

Two chairlifts bring the skiers from Mitterbach (800 m) to the mountain terminal of Mt. Gemeindealpe at 1,626 m above sea level in no time. Once at the top, you can take your time preparing for your first descent: The panoramic view across Lake Erlauf, Mt. Bürgeralpe and the Prealps is particularly impressive on sunny days.

The 15.5 kilometres of slopes in the ski resort are just as versatile as the mountain itself: Directly next to the Terzerhaus mountain inn you can enter Lower Austria's steepest natural slope. A speed course, a fun slope and a practice lift down in the in the valley provide the necessary variety.

Gemeindealpe: The place that freedom calls home!

However, also skiers who feel particularly comfortable off-piste are in good hands in the ski resort on Mt. Gemeindealpe: When there is fresh snow, the separate Freeride Area below the summit makes the hearts of deep-snow fans beat faster. The Snow Park (with its own drag lift) at the intermediate terminal is a popular meeting point for passionate freestylers. A lot of different obstacles await free skiers and snowboarders in the area.

While other ski resorts are often not very welcoming towards ski tour hikers, the „Gmoa Oim“ mountain hut welcomes them with open arms. With the purchase of a day tour ticket (€ 7.- for adults), two well-marked ascent routes are available to you and for the worthwhile descent of more than 800 metres in altitude the regular slopes may be used – but you can also cut your own tracks through the deep powder snow.

Insiders' tip: To get to Mitterbach, we recommend a relaxing ride on the so-called "Himmelstreppe", the panoramic "stairway to heaven" carriages of the Mariazell Railway which stops only a few minutes' walk from the base terminal (stop „Mitterbach“).

Pure winter enjoyment in Mitterbach at Lake Erlauf

At the foot of Mt. Gemeindealpe, Mitterbach also has a lot to offer for non-skiers in winter: 12 km of well-groomed cross-country ski tracks invite you to get active and enjoy the fresh winter air. The entrance to the cross-country ski track network is directly opposite of the base terminal of the Mitterbach cable car. Winter romantics are particularly drawn to the winter hiking trail of the picturesque Erlauf river reservoir.
