Brief description

Scenic circular hike to the summit of Hohenstein to the Otto Kandler-Haus

Description

It takes some time for the hiker to climb the heights to enjoy the most beautiful view over the Dirndltal. Walk quietly through the forest, sometimes rare wild animals may appear! At the summit, not only the magnificent view into the inner Pielachtal pleases the mountaineer, but also the managed Otto-Kandler-Haus. In recent years, the St. Pölten Alpine Club has exemplary adapted it to modern requirements, making the Otto-Kandler-Haus the first Alpine Club hut in Lower Austria to receive the environmental seal of quality. The hut itself has retained its cozy atmosphere, enhanced by a wonderful summit terrace.

Route description Hohenstein

From the "Hinteres Soistal" hiking car park, we go a short way downstream until we reach a small bridge. We follow the signpost "Hohenstein - Prinzbachtal" and cross the bridge. Through a game fence we reach the "Sumetsberg" property. Here there is also the possibility to descend to Tradigist and Kirchberg village. After some steeper sections, you reach the beautifully located "Ebenwiese" before the steep "Tradigister Steig" with the final climb through steep forest terrain awaits us. Conserving energy, the path leads upwards and we soon arrive at the Otto Kandler-Haus. After a short rest, during which we enjoy a magnificent view, we go downhill again along a rocky section past the option to descend into the Traisental valley towards Türnitz or Schrambach. After passing through a game fence, there is also the variant to switch via the "Gscheidsattel" to the "Eisenstein". However, we continue to follow the red-white-red markings over the "Löbelgraben" property and cross the bubbling "Mira-Bach". Following a forest road, after a few bends we reach the end of the public road in the Soistal and then hike a short distance back to the starting point.
