Route description Wachau World Heritage Trail 12: Rossatz - Oberbergern

Crossing church square in Rossatz, passing the town hall and at the bottom you follow the way down to the right until the fruit gardens. You walk past the tennis court and straight ahead at the next crossing, cross the Danube cycle path and soon after you reach the wetland of Rossatz where you walk on the right. Along the edge of the wetland and the fruit gardens you walk until you reach the nice sandy beach and the bike ferry. At this point you have a great view to the opposite side seeing Dürnstein. Now walking past the campsite you reach Rossatzbach. At the fountain at the other end of the road you walk right up to the main road B33. You follow the road for a couple of meters to the right and at the first diversion you take the left.  Now the way leads through the vineyards of Rossatz. Walking through the vineyards named Frauenweingärten, Mugler and Goldberg you pass the ruined „Biritor“ (gate). Here at Seegraben (valley) the rise up to Pemexel located in the Dunkelsteinerwald begins. After a first big bend you walk past „Toten Berg“ (hill) and after a last rise you reach the high Pemexel (508m). From the forested top you have a great view to Krems and Stein. After the Pemexel you reach a wide forest path. You turn left and after about 20 minutes you reach the red cross, where you turn left again. After about half an hour you cross main street, have a short walk on the asphalt, and then left into the woods reaching Bergerner Höhe with wonderful view moments. As soon as reaching Oberbergerner Kreuzung (crossing) you turn right. Only 10 minutes later you are in Oberbergern at the chapel.
