Gippel
Mountain summit
Description
The Gippel is a 1,669-metre-high mountain in the Mürzsteg Alps, six kilometers south of the market town of St. Aegyd am Neuwalde in Lower Austria.
It offers an impressive panorama of large parts of the Styrian-Lower Austrian Limestone Alps. Together with the neighboring Göller (1,766 m) to the west, the very striking Dachstein limestone mountain massif of the Gippel is one of the most popular tour destinations in the Vienna area.
Location
Mostviertel, municipality: St. Aegyd am Neuwalde
Ascents and huts
On the way to or around the Gippel there are several mountain huts where you can rest and recharge your batteries. But beware, not all of them are serviced.
The Gippelalm is open during the grazing season, from May to September.
From the summit, you reach the Pollwischalm and have the option of hiking on to the highest point of the Hofalm, the Schnalzstein. From there, a connecting path leads to the Hofalmhütte, which is also open during the grazing season.
(Enquire about opening times in advance)

The Gippel in winter
The Gippel is a rarely visited destination in winter, so it is perfect for a quiet ski tour. The best starting point for this is at the former Gasthof Triebl in Preintal. The Gippel can then be reached via the Gscheidl saddle and the Perschkogel.
Tip in the surrounding area
Excursion highlights for the whole family await in Kernhof at the White Zoo and Camel Theater - with lots of exotic animals, multimedia shows and exciting guided tours.
