Description

The 1,313-meter Hinteralm is the highest point in Lilienfeld and, like the Muckenkogel, is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in Lower Austria. The view extends to the north over the Danube valley, to the south far into the Alps.

Location: Mostviertel, district Lilienfeld, Gutensteiner Alps

Lilienfeld is only an hour's drive away from Vienna. Numerous hiking trails up to alpine climbs are offered to nature lovers here. The alpine region around the Muckenkogel is accessed by the Lilienfeld chairlift.

Directly at the summit of the Hinteralm is the Traisner Hut, which is about 100 years old and invites you to stop in!

Opening hours: Open all year round (Monday day off).

In winter the Hinteralm/Traisnerhütte is the starting point for ski tours, in summer for extended hikes.

How to reach Hinteralm

from Lilienfeld with the chairlift Muckenkogel, from the top station 45 min. by foot;

from Lilienfeld on foot 2 1/2 hours; no access by car.

Adventure trails and hikes around the Hinteralm

  • The Mathias Zdarsky inventors' trail is ideal for beginners. On this trail his most important inventions are presented, using models true to the original. (Duration: 1h)
  • The Mathias Zdarsky Panorama Trail is somewhat longer. A circular route from the mountain station via Muckenkogel and Hinteralm and back via Klosteralm. (Duration: 2,5h)
  • For company outings or the family, the waterfall trail is suitable, this leads along romantic forest paths, past natural phenomena. (Duration: 2h)

Tour tip for mountain bikers

The scenic tour to the Muckenkogel starts in the center of Lilienfeld at the municipal office, the museum of local history, directly on the Traisental cycle path. Up to the station on the Muckenkogel, after a total of about 900 meters in altitude, you reach the cozy Traisnerhütte on the Hinteralm. After sufficient refreshment it goes on the same route back to the starting point. (Duration: 3h)

Recommendations in the surroundings

  • Zdarsky Berg, Muckenkogel: The 1,248 m high Muckenkogel above the medieval monastery of Lilienfeld attracts with alpine pastures, forest and waterfalls - as well as well-marked hiking trails.
  • The Almgasthaus Klosteralm offers a magnificent panoramic view from the sun terrace to the south with the striking Ötscher. Located only 10 minutes from the chairlift mountain station.

Tip: Every year in March the nostalgic ski race takes place. Starting point at the hut.
