Marktgemeinde Ferschnitz
The municipality of Ferschnitz is located on the eastern edge of the district of Amstetten in the hilly foothills of the Alps, bordering the districts of Melk and Scheibbs. Ferschnitz can be reached from the highway exit A1 Amstetten Ost, via the Bundesstraße 1 and then via the "Günzinger-Brücke" or via the "Hohe-Brücke" to the south over the Ybbs.
The village of Ferschnitz takes its name from the stream of the same name, which was named "Phezniza" in a document dating back to 1034 and formed the eastern border of the Freising area against the Regensburg possessions.
Places of interest
Parish church of St. Sixtus II (Xystus) in Ferschnitz: The history of the parish can only be traced back to the 14th century. Around the same time as the two manorial castles of Freidegg and Senftenegg can be traced.
Senftenegg Castle: The first documented mention of Senftenegg is in 1367 with a Hans Häusler, who was then followed in the order of ownership by the Zelking and the Puchheim. After that, there was a rapid and numerous change of ownership. From 1795 to 1934, the estate was owned by the Starhembergs. Dr. Karl Friedrich Freiherr von Frank, the father of the current owner Karl Frank, was a well-known genealogist and heraldist.
St. Martin's branch church in Innerochsenbach: The quarrystone-built St. Martin's branch church inInnerochsenbach is a particular gem. Martin in Innerochsenbach. The two choir windows with Gothic stained glass from around 1400, the Gothic shrine altars, the tempera paintings from 1521 and the early Baroque furnishings are famous in this church. The only bell dates back to 1646.
Freidegg Castle: Only a small part of Richard von Streun's once famous magnificent building remains today. The former porch with the adjoining four-storey tower has been preserved.
Sports facilities: Golf course with 18-hole course, leisure facility with training ground, fun court, beach volleyball and skateboard court, outdoor pool, two floodlit tennis courts, curling facilities, cross-country ski trails, marked hiking and cycling trails.
