Nature park entrance and tavern
The so-called "Stapelhaus" is Mitterbach's newly built entrance hut to the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park. Hikers and locals meet in this tavern and enjoy views of the Erlauf reservoir, the Ötscher and the Gemeindealpe from the terrace. The house explains itself from its surroundings: in front on the road the piles of wood, below the lake, above the mountain. It does not touch the ground and some say it has no roof. It is made of 9 tons of local wood and stores 18 tons of CO2.

The Stapelhaus is like a "second forest" and the intersection of regional craftsmanship, ecological appropriateness and contemporary architecture. It is there for everyone who is looking for nature...
