The route starts at the municipal office of the town of Lilienfeld (elevation 373 m—across from here is the Salettl, also known as “Platz am Wasser,” where, after the bike ride, a cool drink invites you to linger and unwind). From the municipal office, cycle along Dörflstraße for about 350 m (heading west) until you reach a left-hand curve near the defunct Hametner butcher shop, where you’ll turn onto Jungherrntalstraße and head uphill. Now continue straight ahead on an asphalt road all the way to the top, to the Taurer Chapel.

On Jungherrntalstraße, you’ll cross two bridges (through the so-called Flaschenwald), pass the Dursthof Bertl (yellow house) on your right, ride up the steep section, follow the sharp right-hand curve, pass the Karner bed-and-breakfast, and continue on the private road Taurerweg. You’ll now reach a plateau leading to the Pfeiffer Horse Farm (the road flattens out briefly here) before the paved mountain road continues uphill. After about 20 minutes of climbing, you’ll pass the next farm, the Sulzer (the road flattens out briefly again) before tackling the final hundred meters of the climb. After that, you’ll be treated to a fantastic view toward Eschenau, taking in the wind turbines “Mona” and “Lisa,” all the way to St. Pölten and beyond.

You’ll pass the Taurer Chapel, ride along the flat stretch of road, and turn onto the forest road at the Taurer farmhouse. Follow this road downhill for about one kilometer until you reach a fork. Here, take the right turn toward Traisen (Tarschberg mountain bike trail) and continue along the forest road (ignore any forks to the right or left). After a few meters downhill, you’ll return to a paved road and ride along a tree-lined avenue, passing the cemetery and the kindergarten (on your left) until you reach Mariazellerstraße (near the Orthodox Church). Cross this street (passing the Chinese restaurant on your right), cycle over the bridge (with the Traisen Markt train station on your left and Voest Alpine on your right), and then turn right immediately after the bridge, which brings you onto the Via Sacra.

Here, follow the bike path behind the industrial area (Traisen and Marktl) until you finally emerge in Lilienfeld at Sanitär Kollar. Now it’s time for the final sprint! Cycle the last 500 m along Babenbergerstraße and you’ll eventually arrive at the local history museum, where, after turning right, you’ll find the town hall on your right and the Salettl on your left.

Take the A1 to the St. Pölten Süd exit, then the B20 to Lilienfeld.
