Traisenberg - Gschwendt

From the market square, head through Berggasse and turn right, ascending to the saddle at the Osterkircherl. Here, turn left over the small Osterkogel (Hubertus Chapel, view of the Schneeberg) to the Wancurasteig, which winds its way up through the forest slopes in gentle switchbacks to the Bürgeralpe. Across the alpine meadows to the right toward the Zdarsky Hut (approx. 1 1/2 hours). To the right of the hut, take a detour to the scenic bench with a view of St. Aegyd (5 min). After a short, steep climb to the Starkhöhe, the trail continues across alpine meadows to the Paulmauer, followed by another short, steep climb to the highest point of the Traisenberg. If you go around the Paulmauer on the right, you’ll reach the Grabenalm in about 10 minutes; it’s open during the grazing season (May–September) except on Mondays and Fridays. From the summit of the Paulmauer, descend along the ridge to the 3-Gemeinden-Alm; from here, continue over the steep Linsberg—which is bypassed via a somewhat steep trail—to the Gschwendt. Continue left toward Türnitzer Höger, or take the steep descent to the right toward the Gschwendthütte. From the Gschwendthütte to the parking lot, descend via the Obernberg (trail marker No. 22, hiking atlas) to the Bergerhöhe, and from the Bergerhöhe to Bruck (No. 8), train station. From here, take the train back to St. Aegyd. Total time: approx. 5 hours
