Wonderful 4 to 4 1/2 hour circular hike with views of the Gippel and Göller mountains
First you walk in the direction of Gippel. It accompanies you to the Holzhof near Herzerl-Mitzi. Then it goes steeply uphill over the Luegerberg. You will be rewarded with a wonderful view of Kernhof (a district of St. Aegyd). At the top, a rest area invites you to linger. A look back from Kernhof again shows the Gippel in all its alpine beauty. From the way back to St. Aegyd you can also see the Göller in all its splendor.
Sturdy footwear
From the St. Aegyd train station, head into the Weissenbach Valley. After about 3 km, you’ll reach the Knollhof farmstead. Here, turn right over the bridge (trail sign). Continue on to the Holzhof near the Herzerl-Mitzi (place to stop for a bite to eat). Here, however, do not cross the bridge; instead, continue straight ahead on the gravel road past the chapel. Follow the road as it begins to climb until you reach a trail sign—marked in yellow—where the small trail up to Luegerberg begins. After about 15–20 minutes, you’ll reach the pass to Kernhof (910 m). Descend on the other side, pass the Reintaler farmstead, and continue out to Kernhof to the Gnedt Inn (closed). If needed, there is a bus service from here to St. Aegyd. From Kernhof, you can take the bike path toward St. Aegyd until you can turn right at the Gebhart farmstead toward Rubesfang. Now continue along the hiking trail, past Rubesfang, through Kohleben and Pfarreben, and through the parish settlement back to the former train station—now a confectionery—and on to St. Aegyd. Total time required: 4 1/2 to 5 hours
