Wastl - Anna-Alm

Even from the parking lot along the B 28 at Wastl, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Ötscher, the local mountain of the people of Annaberg. But for now, you turn your back on the Ötscher and hike along a mix of forest trails and logging roads. You’ll pass the Hochstadlberg on your right as the trail gradually climbs eastward. After about an hour’s walk, you’ll cross the “Herzerlweg,” which you’ll follow uphill across clear-cut areas toward Hennesteck. Climbing steadily, the trail leads to the Anna-Alm. At the hut, be sure to stop for a break and enjoy some homemade delicacies while taking in the breathtaking view of the Alpine foothills.

Just 2 minutes from the Anna-Alm, a striking building catches your eye: the summit station of the Annaberg Zipline. With this new attraction from Annaberg Lifts, you can race down nearly 400 meters in elevation into the valley at speeds of up to 120 km/h.

If you’d like to climb a few more meters in elevation, you can pass by the reservoir and continue on to the summit of the Henensteck (an additional 30 minutes or so). Even before reaching the reservoir, the yellow-marked trail leads back down into the valley. You’ll cross the ski slope and walk a short distance along the ski trail before turning right down a forest path, where you’ll reach a paved road at the “Stadlerhof” farm. Here, turn left briefly and then immediately right downhill into the “Tannbachgraben.” Cross the main road, pass the JUFA Hotel, or head straight up the practice slope to reach the parking lot for the Annaberg lifts.

It’s a good idea to park a second car at the lift parking lot.

There are several free parking spaces available right next to the B 28

From the north: Exit the A1 at the St. Pölten Süd exit and follow the B 20 to Annaberg. 6 km past the center of Annaberg (in the Lassing Valley), turn right onto the B 28 toward Scheibbs. Continue for another 4.5 km to the parking lot.

From the west: Exit the A1 Westautobahn at Ybbs/Donau and take the B 25 toward Wieselburg. 3 km past Scheibbs, turn left onto the B 28/Puchenstubener Straße and follow the B 28 (Wastl). After Wastl am Wald, continue another 1.5 km to the parking lot.

2. Park your car at the lift parking lot to get back to the Wastl. Alternatively, after the zipline ride, take the chair lift back up to Hennesteck and hike back along the same route.
