Description
Ornate townhouses along the main street and the beautiful town hall square with the castle and the “Cathedral of the Erlauf Valley” testify to the prosperity of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Biedermeier periods. Along the old town route, you will not only get to know historic Scheibbs but also the lifestyle of today: Scheibbs is the district capital with a very lively cultural scene, health, and education center. A popular meeting point — yet pleasantly small, quiet, and very personal. You experience the special flair of the town best close to the water: at the Erlauf harbor, newly designed in 2015, with the town pier as a resting place, boat landing stage, and sometimes also a cultural venue.
Details on the northern route via Sandsteg directly into the old town:
From the left bank of the Erlauf, you walk over the Sandsteg and then up to the oldest part of town: to the town hall square with church, castle, and town hall. The path continues to the Flecknertor and along the former course of the city wall — where the moat used to be — to the Powder Tower. Over the particularly beautiful main street, you then return to the town pier with seating stands right by the water.
