Neuhofen an der Ybbs

Discover Ostarrichi: "30 royal hooves!"

In the year 996, as recorded in the "Ostarrichi Charter", the German Emperor Otto III gave away "30 royal hooves", an area of land with a "new farm", which corresponded exactly to the landscape around Neuhofen an der Ybbs. This in turn was located in an area "popularly known as Ostarrichi".

Today, the Ostarrichi Kulturhof stands on the exact area mentioned in the document as the "new farm". The permanent exhibition vividly conveys the content of the document and takes visitors through Austria's 1000-year history in seven steps.

Even over a thousand years ago, it was said of this area: "with meadows, pastures, forests and streams, bee pastures, fishing waters and mills..." Here, guests can find out whether hiking really is the "miller's delight" on the "Königshufenweg". Or they can hop on a bike - rental bikes and e-bikes are available.

The regional delicacies reflect the area's closeness to nature. Natural products, whether sheep's cheese, natural juices or cider - all lovingly produced by hand. This and much more makes the "cradle of Austria" tasty!
