Schollach

The municipality of Schollach in the district of Melk is located in Lower Austria's Mostviertel region. The municipality includes the villages of Anzendorf, Groß-Schollach and Klein-Schollach as well as Merkendorf, Roggendorf, Schallaburg and Steinparz. The most important sight is the famous Schallaburg Castle. Schollach also offers extensive hiking trails with magnificent views.

Schollach: Schallaburg Castle & other Excursion destinations
Today, Schallaburg Castle is an international exhibition center - and is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Lower Austria. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1242 as a former fortress, and from the mid-16th century it was rebuilt into the Renaissance castle it is today. Also worth seeing in Schollach are several beautiful local chapels and the magnificent Maria Steinparz pilgrimage church, which was extensively renovated in 2007.

Hiking: The best tips around Schollach
On the family-friendly DUR 7 hiking route from Melk to Inning, Schallaburg Castle and Schollach are on the easily accessible route. Beautiful views are included on this six-hour hike. In contrast, the Roman Trail through the Melk Alpine foothills is a trekking tour lasting several days: the stage route runs past Schollach and the Maria Steinparz church as well as three other pilgrimage churches. The starting and finishing point is Schallaburg Castle.
