Winklarn
The municipality of Winklarn, located southwest of the district town of Amstetten, covers an area of 12.6 km² and has around 1,400 inhabitants. It is divided into a wider valley area in the north (Ybbsfeld) and a mountainous area in the south.
The first documented mention of the village name Winklarn dates back to 1234. However, the settlement dates back to prehistoric times. Finds from the Stone Age and Roman settlements bear witness to this. Winklarn is also a parish and is a so-called original parish with one of the oldest churches in the area. This is confirmed by records dating back to 850.
Winklarn recently came into the spotlight as a tourist destination in winter 2018: the curling world championships held together with Amstetten brought many international guests to the municipality. Winklarn is particularly popular with visitors due to its proximity to Amstetten and quick access to the A1 Westautobahn.
