A hike where peace and contemplation are the defining elements. In the varied hilly landscape to the north of Pyhra, we pass through dreamy hamlets with their chapels and belfries and the wayside crosses and wayside trees in between, monuments created by people out of gratitude, humility or remembrance. We come across very old, simple wayside shrines (1756) as well as newly built chapels with wonderfully designed glass elements. Here we see how alive and vibrant this part of our culture is. Before the relaxed walk back along the Perschlingbach stream, the Fahra-Stüberl offers the opportunity for refreshments. We experience a beautiful view in front of the Schrotthof with a view of the Haspelwald, Dürnrohr, Zwentendorf and Buchberg.
Standard Hiking Gear
At our starting point, the parking lot by the elementary school, we head toward the town center and walk slightly uphill along the street toward the early-Gothic parish church. Right past the church, steps behind it lead us down to the street. We keep to the left and walk down the main street, cross the intersection with Josef Sperlbauer Straße straight ahead, and soon turn onto Kirchenbühelgasse (marker P1, blue/white), which leads to a dirt road. Now we hike up the dirt road to the left, along the Nord settlement with a beautiful view down toward Pyhra. Pyhra’s “Adam & Eve” are two cider pear trees! From here, we can see them clearly to our right on the ridge. Once we reach the end of the settlement, we keep to the right and walk along the edge of the forest, cross a farm road on the ridge, and stay along the edge of the forest at
. At the lower right end of the meadow, a path leads us into the forest, over a stone bridge, and on through the woods to Blindorf, where an impressive chapel with a bell tower awaits us. Once we reach the center of Blindorf, we keep to the right; from the edge of town, a gravel path takes us to Adeldorf. We hike through the village toward Obergrub, turning right onto a farm road at the last house in Adeldorf. This path takes us over a ridge at
with a wonderful view of the Perschling Valley and a vista of Pyhra, down to the edge of the forest. We hike along the edge of the forest until a farm road leads straight down to the street. At this point, we turn left into the forest, then immediately keep to the right again to walk parallel to the forest edge. Soon we come to a memorial tree with a picture dating from 1756! The trail through the beautiful mixed forest leads us to the Burgstallhof, where we turn left at the forest edge and hike up to the hill. Crossing the ridge, we reach the Schrotthof, where we turn right at the cellar/press house and continue on to Fahra. The Fahra Stüberl offers a place to stop for a break and enjoy some good home-style cooking. Crossing the state highway, we reach the riverside path along the Perschling, which takes us upstream to the wastewater treatment plant. From the wastewater treatment plant, we walk along Tümmelhofstraße and then Pater Hartmanngasse back to Pyhra. Passing through the church square, we reach Wiedener Straße, which takes us back to our starting point, the elementary school.
