Everything wild service tree. Michelbach dedicates its own hike to the queen of wild fruit. Nowhere is the density of solitary wild serviceberries higher than around the Hegerberg, which is why this region has rightly been ennobled as the realm of serviceberries. On this circular hike, we encounter particularly attractive wild service tree individuals and learn all kinds of interesting facts about the "Adlitzbeere", as it is popularly known.

A stately service tree greets us at the parking lot next to the shed - a stylish start. On the ascent to the "Prinz", we enjoy particularly beautiful solitary service trees - especially the mighty service tree on the meadow soon after the start, looking east - a classic seasonal tree. A little higher up on the Prinzwiese meadow, you can see how well cared for even the older specimens are - a "couple" stands next to the farm road, well cared for and well treated from wind breakage and age. Shortly before the "Auf der Prinz" farmstead, we can see all four Sorbus species - wild service tree, speierling, rowan and rowanberry - and the young trees are beautifully signposted next to the farm track. Shortly after the estate, a bench invites you to take a break - next to a young 'sorbus torminalis', of course. The tour is definitely a hiker's delight: the high-level trail from the Hegerbergsattel via the monastery to the Kranawettberg offers wonderful views and distant vistas, while the Wiesenwienerwald forest shows itself from its most beautiful side. The rows of dirndl bushes and wild service trees on the descent over the Kranawettberg resemble a veritable "schnapps biotope" ((c) Bernhard Baumgartner) - both types of fruit produce the most sought-after of all brandies. We can taste these schnapps at the Rotteneder, Vonwald and Mayer farms and learn even more about the wild service tree.
