On the old country road, you hike along the Ferschnitzbach stream to the Leithenmühle mill. From there, the trail heads slightly uphill toward Zinsenwang, with a view of the golf course. Once you reach the highest point (the transmission tower), the trail leads along the old Roman road to Senftenegg, with its pretty castle and outdoor pool at the “Zur Linde” inn. Continue westward to Giemetzberg. There, turn right at Haus Krammer to reach Unter Umberg via Friesenegg. The final stretch follows a field and forest path along the Hametholz to Freidegg and back to the starting point.
There are several parking lots in the town. Please follow the signs.
To reach Ferschnitz, take the A1 Amstetten Ost exit, follow Federal Highway 1, and then cross the Ybbs River to the south via either the “Günzinger Bridge” or the “Hohe Bridge.”
Take the Westbahn to Amstetten Station. From there, there are connecting buses that go directly to the center of Ferschnitz.
After the hike, it's a good idea to stop for a bite to eat at the Kirchenwirt.
