The Gaming Charterhouse was consecrated in 1342 and secularized in 1782. At its peak, the largest charterhouse in Central Europe was one of the most lavishly furnished monasteries in Austria. Today, the Kartause houses a four-star hotel and event center, a restaurant, and various university institutes.

The Hotel Kartause Gaming is distinguished by the unique charm of the former monastery complex. Nestled in this historic setting, you’ll find yourself immersed in living history and enjoy your stay in a comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
Throughout the year, 26 rooms and three apartments in the ****-star category are available to our guests. The restaurant serves hearty classics and light, seasonal dishes. During the summer months, large groups also have the option of booking Haus Elisabeth and Haus Franziskus (which offer more basic accommodations). This allows groups of up to 200 people to enjoy their stay at Kartause Gaming during this time.

The Kartause’s main attractions are the church, the Baroque library, and the Prelates’ Hall. In winter, the “Flammende Kartausenweihnacht” (Blazing Kartause Christmas) invites visitors to an atmospheric Advent market in the Prelates’ Courtyard. The Gaming Charterhouse also houses its own brewery, where the “Gaminger Kartausenbräu” is brewed. The “Kartausenbräu” is brewed in accordance with the German Purity Law and contains no chemical additives—making it a truly natural beer.

In winter, the Lackenhof am Ötscherski resort and cross-country skiing center is just a 15-minute drive away.
