through valleys and along waterways, up to alpine pastures and through the region’s mountainous landscape. An extensive network of routes offers a wide variety of options for leisure cyclists, e-bike riders, mountain bikers and road cyclists.
Whether you’re taking it easy on an e-bike, pushing yourself on a mountain bike or riding at a brisk pace on a road bike – the region offers suitable routes to suit all abilities. Over 30 mountain bike trails wind their way through the alpine landscapes of the Ybbstal Alps. A particular highlight is the Ybbstal Cycle Route, the centrepiece of which runs along the former railway line from Waidhofen an der Ybbs to Lunz am See.
Cycling map leaflets provide concise information on the various routes. In addition, the ‘Radtramperbus’ and ‘Radtaxi’services ensure flexible transport options in the region and make it easier to plan cycling tours.
My favourite cycle route runs from Göstling an der Ybbs to Waidhofen an der Ybbs. The route is surrounded by the mountains and the natural beauty of the Ybbs Valley. My personal highlight is the Ochsenloch in Opponitz – a lovely spot to cool off on hot summer’s days.
