From Waidhofen an der Ybbs, the route leads upstream through Opponitz and Hollenstein an der Ybbs, continuing on to St. Georgen am Reith, Göstling an der Ybbs and Lunz am See. The Ybbs remains close by almost the whole time. Sometimes calm, sometimes rushing, sometimes so inviting that a break on the riverbank suddenly becomes more important than the next item on the itinerary. Ybbsitz tells of traditional ironworking and blacksmithing, of fire, craftsmanship and stories that are still passed down to this day. In Gaming-Lackenhof, the Ötscher comes into view. A mountain that shapes the landscape and, even from afar, shows walkers where the path might lead.
In between lie alpine pastures, forests, mountain lakes and trails that can be explored on foot or by bike. Some lead high up into the mountains, others stay close to the water. Along the way, you’ll almost always find a spot for a well-deserved snack, a cosy inn or a brief chat.
