Even the journey itself can be part of the holiday experience: sit back, enjoy the scenery and start your break in a relaxed manner. The Ybbstal Alps are easily accessible by train and bus. Once there, there are also convenient ways to get around without your own car.
The main starting points for travelling by public transport are Waidhofen an der Ybbs and Scheibbs. From there, regional bus services take you on to the holiday resorts in the Ybbstal Alps.

Another option is to travel by train via Pöchlarn to Scheibbs. From Scheibbs, you can then continue into the region by regional bus.

For group day trips, the ÖBB’s Einfach-Raus ticket may be worth considering. It is valid for groups of two to five people on ÖBB and Raaberbahn local and regional trains.
The ticket is valid from 9 am Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and on public holidays. A separate version is available for travelling with bicycles.

The easiest way to book your entire journey before setting off is via the digital timetable services provided by ÖBB or VOR.
If you’d like to combine train, bus and cycling, you can use the Radtramper bus on route 656. It runs between Waidhofen an der Ybbs and Lunz am See and has space for bicycles.
The service runs from 1 May to 26 October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, as well as daily during the Lower Austrian summer holidays. As space for bicycles may be limited, it is advisable to plan ahead.
Many local excursion destinations, hiking areas and town centres can also be reached by public transport. Planning your route in advance is particularly advisable for seasonal activities.
