Dive into a water adventure

Rafting, canyoning, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding – a variety of water-based activities set against a backdrop of stunning natural scenery

Anyone looking for new challenges and active experiences whilst on holiday will find a wide range of water-based activities in the Ybbstal Alps.

One of the most beautiful Alpine rivers, the Salza, rises in Mariazell and winds its way to Großreifling, where it flows into the Enns. As well as its remarkable drinking water quality, it is characterised above all by its unspoilt course: the Salza has never been straightened and remains largely in its natural state to this day.

Local operators offer a wide range of water-based and outdoor activities. Whichever sport you choose, the stunning landscape always provides the perfect backdrop: rugged cliffs and traces of the last Ice Age rise out of the water on both sides. Gentle rapids and wild rapids alternate, turning the wild and romantic gorge into a truly spectacular natural spectacle.

Fancy some action?

When rafting

a group takes their places together in an inflatable boat – with up to six people, depending on the operator. Equipped with paddles, the aim is to work together to keep the boat on course. Depending on the water level, the trip can be either calmer or more challenging. A wet and exciting tour is guaranteed in any case.

Fancy an adventure?

Canyoning

is also known as gorge walking and requires a full physical effort. Unlike rafting, the tour does not just take place in the water: climbing, swimming, jumping and sliding are also part of the experience. For anyone who enjoys action-packed outdoor adventures, canyoning offers the perfect blend of adventure and physical activity.

Tip: Canyoning is particularly well suited to fostering team spirit.

Want to learn about technology?

Kayaking

Mastering white-water waves, navigating currents safely and keeping the kayak under control at all times: at water sports centres, participants can learn the correct techniques in a range of courses to ensure exciting and safe experiences on the water – suitable for all levels of experience.

Prefer to take it easy?

When it comes to canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding

the pace is usually a bit more leisurely than with rafting or kayaking. Whether you’re gliding peacefully across a lake or learning how to handle a canoe safely on calm waters in a course: both sports offer wonderful opportunities to spend time on the water

Water sports holidays with accommodation

After an action-packed day on and in the water, there’s no need to head home straight away. Some water sports operators also offer rooms, holiday flats, dormitory accommodation or camping pitches. This leaves more time for shared experiences, a cosy evening and perhaps even the next excursion the very next day.
