5 summer days in the Ybbstal Alps

Up the mountain in the morning, dip your feet in the water in the afternoon. In between, historic sites, regional cuisine, shady paths and, time and again, the River Ybbs.
Five days that show just how wonderful a summer holiday in the Ybbstal Alps can be.
From every holiday destination and every place to stay, it’s easy to plan your excursions and combine them flexibly.

Day 1

Discover Waidhofen

The first day of your holiday takes you to Waidhofen an der Ybbs. Historic façades, small shops and cosy squares line the route through the old town to Schloss Rothschild. Along the way, there’s time for a coffee, an ice cream or some regional specialities. For the evening, it’s worth having a look at the latest issue of the Wochenpost. Perhaps there’s a concert, a festival or a guided tour taking place. The night watchman’s tour through the town after dark is particularly atmospheric.

Day 2

Blacksmithing and mountain views in Ybbsitz

In Ybbsitz, fire and iron tell the story of the village. A walk along the Blacksmiths’ Trail takes you to old hammer mills and sites of traditional craftsmanship. At theFeRRUM, you can delve even deeper into the world of blacksmithing. Afterwards, the Prochenberg beckons. Depending on your preferences and fitness level, the walk takes you to beautiful vantage points or all the way to the summit. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with views over Ybbsitz and the gentle mountain landscape of the Ybbstal Alps

Day 3

Cycling through the Ybbstal

The Ybbstal Cycle Route connects Waidhofen an der Ybbs and Lunz am See and can be cycled in both directions. Along the way, the route passes through Opponitz, Hollenstein an der Ybbs, St. Georgen am Reith and Göstling an der Ybbs. On warm days, a number of riverside bathing spots invite you to take a refreshing break. Once you reach LakeLunz, there’s time for a swim, a boat trip or a rest on the shore. For the return journey, you can take the Radtramper bus, which takes cyclists and their bikes back to the starting point.

Day 4

Mountain adventures on the Ötscher and relaxation in the brine baths

In the morning, we head to Lackenhof am Ötscher. Around this striking mountain, you’ll find leisurely walking trails, scenic walks and a 3D archery course winding through woods and meadows. Those who prefer to explore culture can visit the Kartause Gaming monastery with its historic walls and unique interiors. In the evening, we head to theYbbstal brine spa in Göstling an der Ybbs. The day’s holiday activities can be rounded off in a particularly relaxing way in the warm brine water.

Day 5

Finding your favourite spot

The last day is set aside for that one experience still on your holiday to-do list. Perhaps a trip to theHochkar, where hiking trails, mountain panoramas and the Hochkar 360° Skytour await. Or the trip might take you to the Mendling Valley. There, the path winds its way over footbridges and across bridges along the water’s edge, past historic timber-floating sites. Another day by the lake or on the banks of the Ybbs is also an option. Ultimately, it simply comes down to your personal favourite spot.
