Multi-day cycle tour along the Mostviertel rivers

Discover the diverse landscapes of the Mostviertel region in all their glory. Over six varied day-long stages, you’ll get to know the countryside and people of Lower Austria’s most beautiful region.

Day 1:
Starting from St. Pölten , the first day’s ride is flat and leisurely along the Roman Bike Route toward the Melk Alpine Foothills and on to Petzenkirchen, where, after about 50 km, you ’ll check in at the excellent Landgasthof Bärenwirt .

Day 2:
Refreshed and ready to go, you’ll cycle leisurely along the Erlauftal Cycle Path to Pöchlarn and then along the Danube cycle path to Ardagger, before continuing via the Cider Cycle Route and then the Mostbaron Cycle Route for about 50 km to your final destination, the Schiffsmeisterhaus in Ardagger.

Day 3:
After a restful night at the Schiffsmeisterhaus, the next leg (about 40 km) takes you along the Mostbaron Cycle Route to Ulmerfeld; from there, continue along the Ybbstal Cycle Path to Waidhofen a/d Ybbs. The afternoon is free for a stroll through the charming old town. You’ll spend the night in Waidhofen an der Ybbs.
Tip: For those who still want more after cycling 40 kilometers, a detour to the Ybbsitz Blacksmithing Center, 11 km away, is well worth it.

Day 4:
A real highlight awaits you on the fourth day: The 55-kilometer-long heart of the Ybbstal Bike Trail to Lunz am See runs close to the water and captivates with its wonderful natural scenery—perfect for leisure cyclists and anyone who wants to become one.

Day 5:
“Take on challenges” is the motto for day five. On the 35-km-long stage from Lunz to Mariazell (briefly on a beautiful trekking trail, then on Zellerrain Street), there are some elevation gains to tackle. After a downhill stretch, the ride along the idyllic Erlauf Lake rewards you for the climbs you’ve conquered, and shortly thereafter you’ll reach the day’s final destination, Mariazell.
Tip: This stage follows a state road over the Zellerrain Pass. Alternatives include a (rather challenging) mountain bike trail (the Nature Park route combined with the Mariazellerbahn railway route) or, for those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the bike taxi .

Day 6:
The final stage takes you from Mariazell back to St. Pölten over 80 km. On the Traisental cycle route , the route climbs slightly at first up to Gscheid near Kernhof before rolling pleasantly along the Traisen River.
